Charlet’s volunteer work at ZICUSO’s Zebra Community Farm was a labor of love, driven by her passion to support the local seniors in her community. Here’s how she made a difference:
Volunteering at Zebra Community Farm
Charlet dedicated her time and energy to helping with farming activities at ZICUSO’s Zebra Community Supported Agriculture. Her efforts contributed to the growth of fresh, locally grown and sourced produce, which would eventually benefit the community, particularly Black seniors.
When the produce was ready, Charlet used her funds to purchase baskets for some Black seniors. These baskets were filled with healthy, locally grown fruits and vegetables as seen on the picture, ensuring that Black seniors in her community had access to fresh, locally grown produce that would enhance their diet and overall well-being.
Charlet’s selfless act of kindness had a profound impact on the senior community. By providing them with fresh produce, she was trying to Promote healthy eating. This encouraged seniors to maintain a balanced diet, essential for their health and well-being.
Supporting local agriculture contributed to the local economy and promoted sustainable agricultural practices. This also fostered Community Connection and helped build relationships between seniors and the community, reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation.
Through her volunteer work and generosity, Charlet embodied the spirit of kindness and compassion, making a tangible difference in the lives of Black seniors in her community.
