About the Elders Council

Baobab Black Seniors Care invites Black elders to join our Elders Council, a group dedicated to guiding programs, services, and decisions that impact Black seniors.
We operate by the principle of “nothing about us without us.” The Council ensures our care is rooted in dignity, cultural connection, and equity.

Why Join?

As a member of the Elders Council, you will:

  • Share your lived experiences and cultural wisdom to guide Baobab’s work
  • Recommend improvements to programs and services
  • Preserve and pass on cultural traditions, stories, and history
  • Act as a trusted advocacy voice, helping Baobab raise awareness and drive systems‑level change so Black seniors receive respectful, culturally safe care

Ensure dignity and respect are woven into every decision affecting Black elders

What’s Involved?
  • Meetings held approximately 4 times per year
  • 2‑year term, with renewal possible
  • Advisory role, your recommendations will be heard and leadership will explain how they are used
Who We’re Looking For

We welcome Black elders who:

  • Bring life experience, cultural knowledge, or community engagement
  • Care deeply about the well-being, equity, and dignity of Black seniors
  • Want to guide the direction of future programs, policy, and advocacy
